I. Job Summary
Perform routine laboratory functions, as assigned, to facilitate the
receipt of materials for treatment and disposal in compliance with the
Waste Analysis Plan, the Part B Permit, corporate guidelines and state
and federal regulations.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Analyzes organic and inorganic compounds to determine
chemical and physical properties, utilizing such techniques as
chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometer.
- Conducts research into composition, structure,
properties, relationships, and reactions of matter.
- Prepares standards and specifications for processes,
facilities, products, and tests.
- Daily lab maintenance, cleaning glassware, general
cleaning, lab packing of materials, and file maintenance. Maintain
supply of reagents, standards and other lab supplies. Receive paperwork
for incoming waste loads. Record information into Service Assistant
Program (AS/400).
- Perform mandatory analysis including sample prep
analysis, instrument and equipment maintenance, and QC of data. Sample
prep for TCLP extraction, SET, cyanide, sulfide and PCB. Document and
resolve discrepancies.
- Perform analysis in compliance with QA/QC Policy and
Procedures. Compile records, analyze lab data. Knowledge of DOT, RCRA,
TSCA and Oregon State regulations.
- Perform wet chemistry and chromatographic analysis,
including sample prep analysis, instrument and equipment maintenance,
and QC of data. Test determination on sales samples.
- Perform metals analysis including sample prep analysis,
instrument and equipment maintenance, and QC of data. Supervise other
laboratory employees.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory duties.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications
necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Required: Bachelor's or Associates Degree with equivalent experience in
Chemistry, and three to five years of previous related experience.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
None required.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
None required.
V. Work Environment
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this

The job tasks are performed indoors, in climate controlled,
well-ventilated lab facilities under artificial light. Personal
protective equipment is provided and utilization is mandatory during the
performance of many job tasks. Chemical exposure is controlled through
the use of established safety practices, engineering controls, and
extensive employee training.
